I use the potting soil that is specifically designed for African violets and the pots that allow you to water from the bottom. They do not like to have any moisture touch their leaves at all. They favor indirect lighting so my grandma always had them in the windows on the north side of the house. I have them on the south side of the house but not directly in front of the windows. They are happy and healthy. I am a little unsure how African violets and ferns would share a terrarium like the photo since they would seem to have different water needs. One of mine needs to be split. Maybe I&amp;#39;ll try putting it in an open-top terrarium.</content><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/362600305103958864/1054877980497759726/comments/default/592358128518475661'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/362600305103958864/1054877980497759726/comments/default/592358128518475661'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.thefernandmossery.com/2009/12/african-violet-terrarium-from-dig.html?showComment=1259805920827#c592358128518475661' title=''/><author><name>Deb</name><uri>http://www.blogger.com/profile/02848535887982663733</uri><email>noreply@blogger.com</email><gd:image xmlns:gd='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005' rel='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005#thumbnail' width='32' height='32' src='http://bp1.blogger.com/_fVl4VlgQhOk/R23NCXSh4aI/AAAAAAAAAJw/zJsdmHS8Mv8/S220/profile.jpg'/></author><thr:in-reply-to xmlns:thr='http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0' href='http://www.thefernandmossery.com/2009/12/african-violet-terrarium-from-dig.html' ref='tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-362600305103958864.post-1054877980497759726' source='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/362600305103958864/posts/default/1054877980497759726' type='text/html'/><gd:extendedProperty xmlns:gd='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005' name='blogger.itemClass' value='pid-717938497'/></entry></feed>
