The Nature of Mind

I type this as the Dalai Lama begins his presentation on "The Nature of the Mind" at UC Santa Barbara. We are honored to have him visiting but- as you can imagine- having 5,000 community members on campus for the presentation is somewhat impacting the day-to-day business here at UCSB.

I have read a few books by his Holliness and he seems very warm-hearted and inquisitive. I think one of my main passions in life is curiosity and learning and the Dalai Lama also advocates this child-like wide-eyed wonder at the world. In his book "The Universe in a Single Atom" he mentions his fascination with scientific instruments and a telescope he found in his residence when he was younger. That makes him "ok" in my book and I hope he enjoys his visit to Santa Barbara. I wish I could give him a terrarium- I bet he would like it.

His next presentation is at 4:00pm PST - if you are interested in listening online check out this link to KCSB

  1. Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.

I could live with that, if not always by it, if you know what I mean.
