Santa Barbara is experiencing a very out of season heat wave. Thank goodness I had been planning on putting mulch down this past weekend. I found a free community mulch pile and have been loading up a 16 gallon bin and fortifying my yard against the impending drought. I could only work in the morning as by noon it was too hot too be shoveling etc. I just can't believe how lucky I was to get it down the morning the heat wave started. All my baby plants would have surely fried.
I was rewarded already by a burst of blooms on several of the plants including the star jasmine and a new calla lilly bloom. The mulch couldn't be working better. I have also noticed more bees, ladybugs, birds and lizards in my yard. Success! I hope the hummingbirds and butterflies follow!
This morning I am lucky to be at work near the ocean and I can smell the cool salty breeze. I hope the heat breaks soon because it is so uncharacteristically early and when this happened in May last year we had some forrest fires in the local mountains. It's weather like this that frustrates me when officials still deny the concept of global warming. Whether the climate change is human induced or not we need to take measures to halt further damage to the environment fast. Ok- off my soap box.

That is too bad about it being so hot over there, it can get a little hot here too but not too often. Global warming I think is a big

that we are going through.
